Ranger Ready Program – Learn by Doing

The Ranger Ready 1 and 2 program by Learn to Shoot is designed for those who learn best by doing. Our hands-on approach delivers essential skills for managing country, with a strong focus on First Nations learning traditions—where knowledge is passed on through practical experience, not just textbooks.

This program equips participants with the qualifications and real-world experience needed for careers in land management, conservation, and ranger roles.

What You’ll Learn

Our Ranger Ready program is broken into 5 modules spread across 5 days, giving participants the skills necessary to get them into the field and caring for country.

  • Firearms Theory Course
    A full day of theory training, with a hands on twist. We cater for those who learn best by doing, a balance between slide shows and in person demonstrations and plenty of hands on excercises.

  • Firearms Practical Course
    A full day of practical training, both on the range and in the field, focussing on the work and tasks that rangers will actually be doing.

Ranger Ready 1

This unit focuses solely on the NT Police approved Employees Licence course, consisting of:

  • Day 1 - Firearms Theory Course
    A full day of theory training, with a hands on twist. We cater for those who learn best by doing, a balance between slide shows and in person demonstrations and plenty of hands on excercises.

  • Day 2 - Firearms Practical Course
    A full day of practical training, both on the range and in the field, focussing on the work and tasks that rangers will actually be doing.

This gets the Ranger Crew the qualification needed to use Firearms in the workplace.

Ranger Ready 2

The second unit focuses solely on Nationally Recognised training and prepares the Ranger Crew for doing pest control work on Country, consisting of:

  • Day 1 - HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in remote or isolated site

    Instruction in first aid, trauma response, improvised care, followed by CPR.

  • Day 2 - HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in remote or isolated site

    Theory exam, followed by field first aid excercises, use of sat phone, radio, flares, epirb and other emergency devices.

  • Day 3 - AHCPMG304 Use firearms to humanely destroy animals
    A full day of practical training, both on the range and in the field, focussing on the work and tasks that rangers will actually be doing.

Ranger Ready can be split into the 2 seperate clusters, or completed over an intensive 1 week period.
